Year 5 pupils…
Firstly, a massive welcome back to all of Year 5 and their families. I hope you all had a restful and relaxing summer (and managed to get away) and I am sure lots of you are looking forward to getting back to school. From a personal perspective, I’m looking forward to teaching the Year 5 curriculum and the added detail that it brings.
Your children have made an excellent start to the year, and I have been extremely impressed with their focus and work ethic in these opening weeks.
Our topic this half term is ‘Becoming the British’. During this topic, we will be looking at the Anglo Saxon way of Life and discussing Sutton Hoo, while evaluating different artefacts. We will also be looking at the Viking invasions and significant figures such as Alfred the Great, Offa, King Canute and Leif Eriksson. We will then be doing a location study of Scandinavia and comparing in to the UK. We will also be designing our own Anglo-Saxon Brooch’s.
In Maths, we will be focusing on place value and regrouping before moving on to addition and subtraction of 4 digit numbers with exchanging. We will then be looking at multiplication, division, perimeter and area.
In English, we will be doing our ‘Take one book week’, Explanation explorers, narrative writing and journal writing.
P.E is on a Monday and Tuesday so please ensure that your child has their P.E kit in school during these times.
