Reception – Iron Age coins

Reception continued their learning this week into the Iron Ages by exploring Iron Age coins. Reception discovered Iron Age people would not use their coins for gifts but would bury them underground for their god.

We then expanded our learning by making our own Iron Age coins out of clay. First the children rolled their clay into a ball. Then using both hands they flattened their clay ball to make a circular shape. Using a clay tool the children created their personalised marks in their coins. Once their clay had dried the children were then able to finalise their coins by painting them.
