Today reception went on a learning journey to discover why we celebrate Mother’s Day and where it originated from four hundred years ago. We began with a circle time where the children learnt that about four hundred years ago on Mothering Sunday, people would visit their nearest big church (the Mother Church). Reception then learnt Mother’s Day is celebrated in many different countries around the world and in Britain, it normally takes place in March, or early April. We ended our circle time by telling our peers why our mummy is special to us. This was so lovely hearing all the children’s special reasons. To say thank you to our mummy’s for being so special, we made a beautiful, handcrafted card.
