Our School Council consists of a group of students who are elected, by the children, to represent the views of all pupils.
The School Council meets, with a teacher present, to discuss how we can improve our learning environment and support our local community. They also talk about how we can raise funds for our school as well as local and national charities.
Recently they have served lunch at the ‘Friday Feast’ at the Church of the Nazarene.
They have been very busy during the Summer Term planning and organising Alban Wood Community Farm!
The Eco Council, like the School Council, are elected by their peers.
They organised Community Day in September. During the Sunday afternoon they planted a sensory garden and a bottle greenhouse. They have also been very busy planning and organising Alban Wood Community Farm!
Bully Busters are a new group of children whose sole purpose is to promote anti-bullying within our community. The group meet on a fortnightly basis and have lead a number of parent workshops. Their aim this year is to award every child with the title of ‘A Bully Buster’. Certificates have been awarded in assembly for all of our new Bully Busters.
Anti Bullying Week – November 2015
Our Anti-Bullying Week
At Alban Wood we support anti-bullying because we believe it’s affecting other pupils life’s and can interfere with their happiness.
To kick off Anti-Bullying week we decided to arrange an assembly to ask the whole of the school to sign an Anti-Bullying promise so no one would be bullied. We read the story of ‘The Juice Box Bully and discussed how standing together can help stop bullying.
Every day before and after school we went outside and asked parents to sign a family promise. Also at the same time, we also asked some of the children and their parents if would like to buy some of the wrist bands that we were selling; the money went to Kidscape. We raised over £300 for the worthy charity.
After we sold all of the wrist bands on the last day of the week we asked the pupils of our school to wear blue and bring a small of amount of money for Kidscape. On the same day where we dressed in blue, we made a circle around the school to show unity.
As Bully-Busters we will take a stand against bullying!
In the Summer term of each academic year pupils have the opportunity to apply for prefect roles. Prefect roles are announced in assembly and responsibilities begin straight away!
