Year 4

Year 4 pupils…

Dear Parents & Carers,

I hope you all had a restful and relaxing half term despite being bombarded by stormy weather!  It is good to be back for the second half of the spring term where lots of exciting learning opportunities and activities await the children in Year 4.

We are continuing to learn about the fascinating and unbelievable Egyptians this half term.  In our English lessons, we will be trying to persuade Lord Carnarvon to give us (as Howard Carter) funding for an extra year’s excavation of the Valley Of The Kings in order to find Tutankhamun’s tomb.  We will be making an Egyptian sarcophagus with a mummy inside and evaluating the tools and instructions used to create it.  The children will also be learning about the astounding accomplishments of the ancient Egyptians as well as what happened to them when they died.

Having looked at decimals in some detail before half term, we will now be focusing on fractions this half term before we multiply and divide using formal written methods.

Our P.E. lessons this half term will be teaching striking and fielding skills through the game of kwik cricket and we will be working in small groups to devise and perform a dance to the classic Bangles’ song, Walk Like An Egyptian.

All of this leads to our exciting visit to The British Museum on Friday, 24th April where we will be seeing amazing Egyptian artefacts first hand including the incomparable and ground-breaking Rosetta Stone.  A letter with full details will be coming soon.

Thank you once again for your support.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Best wishes,

Mr Saxby– Class 4 Teacher and Mrs McGill
